Amethyst Biomat Hoax Explained

As a Biomat user myself (you can read my complete Biomat review here), I have to write down my point of view.

I am addressing all those people that question the credibility of this product.

You should know that far infrared light is not a mystical healing force.

What makes it a kind of mystical is our inability to see the light with the naked eye, but we can still experience it as heat.

There are actually 3 means for heat to be transferred – radiation (i.e. light), conduction (i.e. contact), and convection (i.e. airflow).

The latter two are not therapeutic for the high chances of burning the skin of a person long before they would have any effect on their interior.

Nonetheless, light with a very long wavelength (i.e. far infrared radiation light) has the ability to penetrate further into the body, which enables complete heat absorption at all depths.

This is the reason sunlight leaves a warm touch to the body.

It is also the reason only red light gets through when you put a flashlight behind your fingers.

Red light has a longer wavelength than the other colors.

It is well known that frequent application of heat heals tissue injuries much faster.

However, other ways of applying heat onto tissue injuries such as blowing a hair dryer on your knee are just not effective and are not going to work.

You will need radiant heat in order to have any therapeutic effect.

A bottle of hot water achieves this to some extent, but it is no match for a medical device designed particularly to produce long-wavelength infrared light.

The Biomat (read my Biomat review here) uses the amethyst crystal as a medium to convert conductive heat into radiant heat.

Amethyst is a type of quartz that consists of elevated iron impurities, and the iron atoms are aligned in a way that produces the distinctive purple color.

Most infrared heating devices use some kind of crystalline material to convert heat into infrared light.

Quartz is an essential part of any good infrared space heater, and infrared saunas usually use either ceramic or carbon “lamps”, or “buttons”.

Engineers at Richway chose amethyst for a few reasons, one of them is its ability to produce infrared light with very much efficiency.

In other words, conductive heat was converted into infrared light with no or little energy loss.

Amethyst crystals are not efficient at storing heat energy, which is the main reason why they need to shed all excess heat energy.

Amethyst has been used for healing purposes for centuries.

Its long history is fascinating because not only it relieves physical pain, but it also calms and sobers the mind.

This very same belief has persisted over millennia and pervades ancient civilizations from the ancient Chinese, Egyptians, and Greeks, and across civilizations thousands of miles apart.

I will be the first to admit of having no idea how this mechanism functions.

More to the point, all those cultures could still be wrong.

However, I reckon it is pretty close-minded to just disregard the cultural heritage of that idea entirely.
