DIY Detox Foot Soak

Epsom salt is a natural, safe and effective way to detox your body. It can help with muscle pain, arthritis, headaches, and more. Essential oils are the perfect addition to any foot soak because they help relax you while you soak.

Toxins enter our bodies via our surroundings daily, from sources including the water we drink, processed foods, commercial meat intake, and heavy metal exposure. Toxins are naturally removed from our bodies by several of our organs, including the skin. Unfortunately, we often accumulate toxins at the cellular level, which may need assistance in their elimination from our bodies. As part of their complete treatment plan, most certified Naturopathic Doctors (NDs) recommend a range of detox treatments for their patients. NDs employ a variety of detox therapies, ranging from dietary changes to skin and foot soaks. Like my foot soak recipe, my Foot Detox Soak (DIY) can relieve weary, hurting feet while also drawing pollutants through the skin.

You’ll need a foot soaking tub or a cheap dish basin, Epsom salt, Dead Sea salt, bentonite clay, apple cider vinegar (ACV), and your favorite essential oils to create this Foot Detox Soak (DIY).

DIY Detox Foot Soak

Ingredients

2 gallons of hot water

1 pound of Epsom salt

1 cup salt from the Dead Sea

12 cup clay (bentonite)

12 cup apple cider vinegar

Aromatherapy oils

For this recipe, my preferred essential oils are wintergreen blends and peppermint to relieve pains, or lavender, which has been proven to restore liver and kidney function after pesticide exposure.

Directions

  1. Fill a basin with warm water big enough to fit your feet comfortably. Metal bowls should not be used since they may decrease the efficacy of bentonite clay.
  2. Epsom salt, Dead Sea salt, bentonite clay, apple cider vinegar, and your favorite essential oils are all good additions.
  3. Soak your feet in a warm bath for 20–30 minutes.

To eliminate calluses and dry skin buildup, gently exfoliate your feet with a pumice stone or with my DIY foot scrub after soaking. To conclude, use a decent moisturizer.

Epsom Salt and Apple Cider Vinegar are vital.

Because of its purifying and pain-relieving properties, Epsom salt is known as the “MVP” of body soaking salts. The magnesium in the salt has been shown to reduce inflammation and discomfort, and the combination of magnesium, sulfur, and oxygen is thought to activate the body’s detox route. In addition, soaking with Epsom salt helps naturally increase blood magnesium levels via transdermal absorption, which promotes neuromuscular health and cleansing.

Apple cider vinegar (ACV), which has a long list of health advantages, has been shown to have antibacterial and antifungal activities in investigations. As a result, ACV is an excellent addition to a detox foot soak or foot bath recipe. When taken topically or in baths, ACV helps balance the skin’s pH and is believed to assist with foot odor and fungus. Make your next foot or bath soak using ACV!

Can Your Feet Help Detox Your Body?

Even though there is no current published medical research or literature to support the idea that your body may be detoxed via your feet, Eastern medicine has recommended the practice for millennia. Footbaths are a frequent component of good health practice for Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioners, who believe that the meridians that run through the feet influence every organ and portion of the body.

Detox Your Foot at Home

Alternative healthcare practitioners recommend several methods for detoxing your foot at home. The most popular way is to soak your feet in warm water with a mixture of salts, herbs, and essential oils, like in my DIY Detox Foot Soak recipe. Detox foot pads, foot masks, foot washes, and even foot massages are more methods to detox feet at home. As previously stated, Traditional Chinese medicine believes that all organs and body systems are linked to meridians that run through the foot and that organs and body systems may be restored to balance by applying acupressure or massage to these meridians.

Is a Foot Detox Effective?

Even though foot detox baths have been used in Asia for hundreds of years, there is considerable debate today over whether or not they help. In fact, in 2012, research was conducted to examine hair and urine samples and analyze the water before and after foot detox baths. Unfortunately, this research found no evidence that foot detox baths remove toxins from the body. On the other hand, other studies have shown that ionic detox foot baths eliminate heavy metals from the body, which may cause a variety of health problems.
