12 Science-Backed Benefits of Jade Infrared Mats

Over the past few years, there has been an increase in using far infrared rays as a means for treating various health conditions.

This alternative healing method has proven effective time and time again.

However, what you perhaps did not know is that FIR is just part of a “bigger” picture.

Namely, FIR benefits are just one of many other benefits that come with healing mats.

In some cases, they are not as effective.

What’s more, when applying only FIR, there is a risk that this method may not be good for certain medical conditions.

However, when coupled with healing stones such as jade, they offer a multitude of beneficial properties.

That said, stay tuned and find out how jade healing mats, in combination with FIR, can be a winning team for you and your body.

Why Jade Mats

As mentioned, FIR is powerful, but healing mats incorporating semi-precious gemstones such as jade, amethyst, and tourmaline are even more powerful. Here is why.

To reach the common goal of improved health, these mats incorporate a few different systems. They provide far infrared rays, negative ions, and heated gemstones. The gemstones naturally emit far infrared and negative ions. Once they are heated, the gemstones become activated, and deliver benefits at a greater level.

This is made possible with numerous functional layers. Basically, the mat is heated up by the wire going through it.

But another question is raised: How is this jade mat protected from bad EMFs?

It is simple – that wire is overlaid with silicone coating that filters bad EMFs from the mat.

Additional layers promote heat distribution so that the mat is heated up evenly all throughout.

Both the top layer and the bottom layer are secured as well. The former is made of high-quality synthetic leather, whereas the latter is a waterproof material.

Because of their ergonomic and user-friendly design and use, jade mats are widely used to treat numerous conditions.

Below are some scientifically-proven benefits of jade healing mats.

Scientifically-Proven Benefits of Jade Mats

Many scientific studies conducted in the last few years confirmed that healing mats incorporating semi-precious gemstones such as jade are effective when it comes to treating different medical conditions.

Here is what FIR and jade can help you with.

Reduce Pain and Stiffness

The benefits of FIR and jade can boost your immune system through mild heating. This raises the number of white blood cells and killer t-cells in your blood.

What’s more, these are also a promising method of healing – reducing muscle soreness, muscle spasms, and relief for rheumatoid arthritis.

In 2009, Clinical Rheumatology reported that infrared sauna treatment shows short-term improvement of stiffness and pain in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis (1).

May Inhibit Chronic Fatigue

In 2005, a study published in the Journal of Psychosomatic Research reported that chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is treatable when using repeated thermal therapy.

The study included two patients who were subjected to thermal therapy.

The therapy, which was performed in an FIR dry sauna once a day, lasted for a total of 35 sessions.

According to the results, repeated thermal therapy is a promising method of treating chronic fatigue syndrome (2).

Treat Arteriovenous Fistula

Arteriovenous fistula is a medical condition in which there is an abnormal connection between arteries and veins.

Normally, blood flows from arteries to capillaries to veins. Oxygen and nutrients in your blood move from capillaries to tissues in the body.

With arteriovenous fistula, the blood bypasses some capillaries, leaving them with a reduced blood supply.

This condition most commonly affects the legs. However, it can develop anywhere in your body.

In 2014, at the Department of Nursing in Taiwan, FIR has been scientifically proven to be helpful in the treatment of arteriovenous fistula in hemodialysis patients.

Additionally, the laboratory findings suggested the improved blood flow to and from arteriovenous fistula, as well as the decreased chance of the malfunctioning of arteriovenous fistula (3).

Prevents Sunburns

Some think that radiation of any sort is harmful to your skin. Even though rays such as UV rays can be extremely damaging to your skin, there is radiation such as infrared radiation that simply “caresses” your skin.

According to the Archives of Dermatological Research, infrared radiation (FIR included) inhibits sunburn cell formation caused by ultraviolet B rays (4).

Reduces Back Pain

Low back pain is one of the most common conditions in the modern world. It is not only responsible for health problems, but it is also a cause of lost workplace productivity.

Although many have sought out complex and expensive treatment strategies, back pain can be treated in a simple, safe, and effective way, and here is how.

In 2015, Dr. Gaze, along with her team, did research on the benefits of far-infrared therapy on chronic back pain.

The study was conducted on 50 patients with lower back pain. They would sit on an FIR jade mat every day, and report the effects after some time.

The findings suggested substantial improvements in the mental and physical health of the patients, including decreased lower back pain.

In addition, no adverse effects were reported (5).

Treats Allergic Rhinitis

Allergic rhinitis, more commonly known as hay fever, is a nasal inflammation that occurs when your immune system is overreacting to allergens in the air.

This condition is one of the most common chronic illnesses in the world.

Allergic rhinitis is a nasal inflammation, meaning its symptoms most likely occur due to increased vascular permeability.

Conventional therapeutic methods, such as immunotherapy, medications, or avoidance of the allergen, proved ineffective in the treatment of allergic rhinitis.

Taking this into consideration, researchers had to find another way of treating illness.

In 2007, a group of scientists conducted a study published by the Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society.

Their aim was to find an alternative treatment that could show a much stronger effect.

The study results suggested that far infrared therapy caused improvement in the symptoms of nasal stuffiness, nasal itching, sneezing, eye itching, and rhinorrhea.

Thanks to their scientific contribution, this method is now considered a novel and effective treatment of allergic rhinitis (6).

Improve Motor Function

Far infrared radiation therapy is beneficial to nerve function, according to a 2015 study published in the journal Evidence-based Complementary and Alternative Medicine.

The results suggest that FIR treatment is effective, noninvasive, and beneficial in terms of increasing nerve regeneration and improving motor function.

Moreover, the study’s findings confirm that far infrared can be used as a novel treatment for various peripheral nerve diseases and injuries (7).

Help Treat Some Types of Cancer

The healing properties of FIR are capable of inhibiting the proliferation of certain cancer cells.

This occurs because FIR rays cause a change in body temperature, which is reported to cause different inhibiting effects to five human cancer cell lines, including tongue, lung, breast, vulva, and gingiva.

These findings suggested that FIR should be very effective in treating some cancer cells, according to Medical Oncology in London (8).

Jade Improves Quality of Life and Overall Well-Being

Thermal heating has been applied to treat patients with chronic pain for many years.

Research has shown that this method is effective in decreasing chronic pain, with no need for medication.

In a 2005 study conducted at Nishi Kyusyu University in Japan, researchers found that infrared sauna heat therapy improves mood and overall well-being, when combined with other holistic treatments (such as cognitive behavioral therapy and exercise rehabilitation).

The study included 46 patients split into two groups. One of these groups was subjected to infrared sauna treatment.

Two years after treatment, 77% of the patients in the sauna group reported feeling well enough to return to work, in comparison with just 50% in the control group (9).

Decreases Symptoms of Diabetes

A 2010 study published in the Journal of Complementary and Alternative Medicine found patients with type II diabetes experienced improved quality of life when using far-infrared sauna treatments.

People with diabetes often suffer from pain, depression, chronic fatigue syndrome, congestive heart failure, and other heart complications.

Thanks to their capacity to raise the pain threshold, far-infrared treatments can contribute to overall well-being, thereby treating diabetes symptoms naturally.

In 2010, the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine published a study in which patients were given a 20-minute treatment, three times a week, over a period of three months.

According to the results, the patients experienced significant improvements observed in less fatigue, lower stress, overall health, and better social functioning (10).

Reduce Blood Pressure Levels

There is limited moderated evidence in favor of FIR’s ability to normalize blood pressure (11).

Still, a group of medical researchers from Germany suggests that a one-hour session of FIR therapy can substantially decrease blood pressure levels, as a result of a constant dilation of peripheral blood vessels.

What’s more, they also report that blood viscosity will improve.

“After being exposed to FIR for one hour, you will experience a significant decrease in blood pressure, cardiac ejection resistance, and total peripheral resistance,” the German scientists say.

As a result, you will experience a significant increase in heart rate, stroke volume, cardiac output, and ejection fraction.

However, the evidence remains limited, and further research is required.

Help Detoxify Your Body

In comparison to conventional heat or steam saunas, the healing properties of jade stones are thought to be seven times more effective in body’s detoxification from heavy metals (such as aluminum and mercury), alcohol, cholesterol, nicotine, sulfuric acid, ammonia, and other environmental toxins (12).

As biotoxins cannot be expelled instantly, they are stored in the body, thereby causing various illnesses.

When metal toxins (such as chlorine, mercury, and lead) and toxic gases (such as sulfur dioxide and carbon dioxide) reach large molecules of water, they are encapsulated by clusters of these water molecules, and trapped in the body.

The accumulation of these toxins is harmful to your body because they block blood flow and impair cellular energy.

However, when you apply an FIR wave of 7 to 14 microns to these large molecules of water, the water starts to vibrate.

This weakens the ionic bonds of the atoms that hold the water molecules together.

By evaporating, the water no longer encapsulates the toxins and gases, and they can be released.

No matter how many healing effects FIR provides, there still are a few precautions you should take before using it as a treatment.

Precautions

As mentioned above, far infrared rays have earned their reputation for offering a multitude of potential therapeutic benefits and effects in research conducted worldwide.

However, you should know that even these miraculous rays alone can be harmful to some people.

This is why you should get to know any potential adverse effects of FIR by consulting with a primary-care physician.

You should not undergo FIR treatment when you:

  • Suffer from certain ailments such as diabetes, dermatitis, vascular diseases, deep vein thrombosis and multiple sclerosis (MS). According to research, FIR alone is highly inadvisable to patients who suffer from these conditions because it raises the core temperature, which only triggers them.
  • Take certain prescription drugs. Therefore, consult your doctor first before you take any FIR.
  • Have joint problems. If you are suffering from a joint injury, do not heat that area for the next 48 hours.
  • Have menstruation. Heating the lower back may increase the blood flow, thus menstrual flow.
  • Suffer from hemorrhage. Hemophiliacs should avoid FIR usage because it would induce vasodilatation and bleeding.
  • Are pregnant.
  • Have silicone implements in your body. Silicone in your body may be warmed by infrared rays. The melting point of silicone is at over 200º C. Even though FIR should not have adverse effects on silicone, it is still recommended to check with your doctor first.
  • Suffer from pain.
